About Us
Mission Statement
The New York Animal Agriculture Coalition is focused on reconnecting the publics’ understanding of and appreciation for animal agriculture through:
- media engagement,
- public education,
- and by fostering cooperation between industry stakeholders.
What's At Stake
With the rise of food safety scares and increasing social awareness, consumers are increasingly interested in how their food is produced. Fewer people know a farmer. They’ve lost the human connection to how our food and fiber is grown, which troubles them and impacts their trust. This lack of understanding can increase the cost and threaten the viability and longevity of farm operations. Across the country a number of cases drive home the reality of the dependence of farms on the support of their communities, with the permitting process for farm expansion, the ability to follow common best management practices, and public nuisance suits that drive farms out of business and prevent farm expansions.
This We Believe
- Farmers and farming contribute valuable stewardship and citizenship to our communities.
- Animal husbandry is necessary, morally acceptable, and at the foundation of a strong nation.
- Farmers are ethically responsible to care for their animals and the land.
- To thrive, farmers need an adequate price for their products, and the social license to operate.
- Farms of all sizes contribute to the local economy and agriservice infrastructure. Farmers should be free to choose their own management philosophy.
- We must educate our communities about the benefits of farm businesses and farmers. We must reinforce agricultural, economic and environmental realities and benefits, and create an atmosphere at the local level that helps our farms compete.
